The ambiance in the little town of Boerne, Texas, warms the heart and enlivens the spirit! Surrounded by the beautiful Texas
Hill Country, Boerne, Texas, is just a 30 minute drive to downtown San Antonio. It is a fabulous combination of Old World
charm and Texas hospitality. The tastefully restored Main Street offers a feast of antique, gift, and art galleries, restaurants,
coffee shops, bakeries, turn-of-the-century European architecture and picturesque gardens, parks, and greenbelts.
This delightful, charming town began in 1849 when a group of German colonists from Bettina camped out on the north side of Cibolo Creek.
In 1852 it was named in honor of Ludwig Borne, a German poet and publicist. The community had only 10 houses in 1859, but
it was chosen to be the county seat. A courthouse was built in 1870 which is still in use, making it the second-oldest courthouse
in Texas.
The arrival of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway in 1887 brought increased economic opportunity. The community prospered
through the 20's. In the 1950's, however, Boerne became more of a bedroom community when many Boerne residents turn

ed to San
Antonio for their employment.
A German cultural tradition still dominates the community in many ways. There is always something fun going on in Boerne...many travel to Boerne annually to attend the Burges Fest. Many go there just to get away for the weekend. Many families move there to live closer to the Texas Hill Country and to raise their children in Boerne's well-known school district. It is a small city in the hills with an affluent lifestyle!
